Operating procedures and processes to ensure RMS Glass as a business efficiently and effectively provides high quality products and services to each client.
Estimates
Quotes are for estimation purposes and are subject to change once project elements are finalized. Any alteration or deviation from the stated specifications involving extra costs will be executed upon written orders and will become an extra charge over and above the estimate. All agreements contingent upon strikes, accidents, or delays beyond our control.
Due to the current volatile nature of the manufacturing industry, estimates are only valid for 10 days from the date of proposal.
All projects require a sign off, and a non-refundable 50% deposit is required to begin fabrication or ordering of materials for the job. For any orders or projects under our minimum contract value of $1,000, payment of 100% is required upfront.
There is a $100 fee for an in-person design consultation and site measure to be invoiced should the project quote not be accepted.
Payment
Full payment of the remaining balance plus all applicable taxes not already collected is required upon completion of the project. Such payment is to be made immediately to (cash or cheque) or in the presence of (e-transfers) the installers who are on-site, unless other terms are specified and agreed to by both RMS Glass Inc and the customer. Cheques payable to RMS Glass Inc. By approving the project and providing a deposit, you agree to have the final balance paid upon immediate completion of said project as specified.
Scope of Work
The scope of work included by RMS Glass Inc is restricted to uninstalling and installing glass and metal products. Work outside of this scope will not be completed by RMS Glass Inc technicians - please ensure all fixtures, equipment, and furniture surrounding the glass installation space are removed prior to installation.
If a project includes removing an existing glass structure, please be aware we are not able to predict what is behind the existing hardware and this may impact our installation. We do our best to thoroughly clean the space before installing new materials, and will fill existing holes with silicone if we are unable to cover them. Anything beyond these measures are out of our control. Without prior knowledge of existing below-surface material we rely on, and it is the responsibility of, the customer to warn us of layout and depth restrictions.
Orders
Lead times vary depending on vendor, product, time of year and may range from 10 business days to 4 weeks. We endeavor to install product within 3-5 business days of it being in our possession.
We cannot guarantee a perfect match when colour-matching with existing hardware. While manufacturers have similar names for hardware, it does not mean they are truly the same colour or finish, and often vary from common bathroom fixture brands. We are limited to our vendor’s colour selections.
At RMS Glass Inc., we believe that using high-quality materials is key to delivering a finished product that will stand the test of time. That's why we only use the best materials available. Please be sure to read and follow the below recommendations for newly installed glass.
Care, Cleaning and Recommendations
Mirrors: The best and safest cleaner for a mirror is clean, warm water used with a soft cloth. Be careful not to allow the edges of the mirror to get or remain wet over a period of time. If using commercial glass or mirror cleaner, be sure to use a standard brand that does not contain ammonia or vinegar; do not use Windex. Never spray any cleaner directly on to a mirror. Instead, apply the cleaner to a soft cloth and then wipe the mirror. Be sure to dry all joints and edges thoroughly to be certain no commercial cleaner comes in contact with the edge or backing.
Showers: Please allow 24 hours for the silicone to dry completely before using your shower to avoid damage. Clean your shower enclosure after every use using a squeegee to wipe water and soap residue off the interior. If you have hard water, and have not opted to have Diamon-Fusion Glass Protector applied to your glass, spray the door with a solution of ⅓ white vinegar and ⅔ water prior to wiping. Ensure regular wiping of a sliding shower door track with a dry cloth after each use.
Diamon-Fusion Glass Protector (DFI): “For best results rinse the shower enclosure with clean water and wipe down any remaining droplets. You may also towel dry the surface or use a squeegee. Once a month, wet the shower enclosure and use a nylon body puff to go over the surface until clean and smooth. Then rinse and wipe down any remaining droplets. If you wish to use a cleaning product, the following may be used: white household vinegar diluted with water, Sprayway Ammonia-free Glass Cleaner, Seventh GenerationTM Natural Glass and Surface Cleaner, Simple Green, Ammonia-Free Windex.”
Insulated Glass Units: Window condensation is usually a wintertime situation that occurs when outside temperatures are low, but can also appear in the summer. Condensation usually happens when replacement windows have recently been installed, or on a house with energy-efficient windows. There is a typical concern there is a fail in seal or defect in the window when in reality, condensation is an indication that the windows are working as intended. Winter condensation will occur on the inside of windows and summer on the outside. Double- and triple-pane glass, low-E coatings, and inert gas fill help to reduce the flow of heat, which in turn results in cooler surfaces on the cold side and warmer surfaces on the warm side. Windows and insulated units do not cause condensation; instead they prevent humidity from escaping and provide an easy surface for condensation to collect.
Since outside temperature and relative humidity cannot be controlled, it is recommended to ensure reduced humidity in the home: to dry the air in contact with the window, warm the surface of the windows (in winter months) by increasing thermostat, install a deflector on floor register so air-conditioned air isn’t blowing directly at the window, ensure all sources of ventilation are functional and use kitchen, bathroom, laundry fans to vent moisture, and run a dehumidifier. Below is a table of recommended or comfortable levels of indoor humidity during winter months (indoor humidity can be measured with a hygrometer):
Outdoor Temperature Indoor Relative Humidity
-30°C or below 15%
-30 to -24°C 20%
-24 to -18°C 25%
-18 to -12°C 35%
-12 to 0°C 40%
Warranty
Mirrors: Mirrors have a five-year vendor warranty against defect in silvering except where neglect and misuse are a factor as deemed by RMS Glass Inc and glass vendor. Warranty covers product only; labour to inspect and install are charged. RMS Glass Inc covers workmanship on installed products for a period of one year. Mirrors over 60" in width or height are at greater risk of distortion in the glass. Due to this, we do not warranty any mirrors over 60" x 96".
Showers: Shower and tub glass has a one-year warranty against leakage, corrosion, and discolouration except where poor maintenance has been deemed the cause by RMS Glass Inc and glass vendor. Glass breakage is excluded from all warranty. Warranty covers product only; labour to inspect and install are charged. RMS Glass Inc covers workmanship on install products for a period of one year. Single pieces of glass over 108" in height or width do not fall under our warranty due to potential glass bowing.
Silicone will naturally breakdown overtime, harsh cleaners will accelerate this and for this reason silicone is not covered under warranty. On rare occasions, tile may break or crack when drilling holes - there is no warranty against this breakage. If tile breaks, install will stop immediately and the customer will be notified as breakage, specifically when drilling, reflects the quality of the tile installation, not the workmanship or products of RMS Glass Inc. It will then be the customer’s responsibility to have the tile replaced.
Diamon-Fusion Glass Protector (DFI): “Diamon-Fusion treated shower doors are guaranteed to remain more water repellent than untreated glass for the lifetime of the glass as long as manufacturer care recommendations are followed and no abrasive cleaners are used. Diamon-Fusion chemically bonds to the glass and creates a patented, protective coating that when properly applied by an authorized applicator, is guaranteed not to haze, chip, crack, peel, or discolour for the lifetime of the glass. No Revitalizer is required to maintain the warranty. In the event of a covered product failure, DFI’s liability is limited to the cost of replacing DFI chemical materials for retreatment, and will in no way extend to indirect, incidental, or consequential damages incurred in relationship to this product.”
Insulated Glass Units/Windows: As noted above, condensation on the outside or inside of recently installed windows and insulated units is an indication that the glass is functioning as designed. If, after following recommendations to prevent condensation, there are still issues you may need to consult a professional heating contractor. Insulated glass units are warrantied for 10 years against material obstruction to vision due to defects in material or workmanship which results in film formation or dust collection on the internal glass surfaces caused exclusively from the failure of the hermetic seal, except where neglect has been deemed by RMS Glass Inc and the glass vendor. Glass breakage is excluded from all warranty. RMS Glass Inc covers workmanship on install products for a period of one year.
Following ASTM standards regarding blemishes (cracks/bubbles/scratches) in glass: glass shall be inspected at a distance of 10 feet from the observer, observer shall be perpendicular to the glass and there shall be a suitable background light (daylight without direct sunlight or a range of 500-1000 foot lamberts). If defects are visible beyond what is allowed as listed by sizes (square feet) using inspection criteria, the glass may be rejected or issued a remake.
We do not tolerate harassment, haggling, rushing outlined lead times, or exceptions to payment terms (HST is included for all projects and non-negotiable).
By approving the issued RMS Glass Inc quote, whether by signature, payment of deposit, or other written approval, you acknowledge receipt and understanding of these terms and conditions. Further, you acknowledge your express agreement to be bound by each.
